The categories that I use for my life organization are:

  • Physical: exercise, diet, sleep
  • Professional: job, career planning and development
  • Social: family, friends, community
  • Solitary: hobbies, travel, music, art
  • Maintenance: cleaning, laundry, home, car
  • Mental: reading, puzzles, games
  • Emotional: journaling, meditation, gratitude
  • Financial: spending, investment, bills

These are designed to be approximate, not exact, where some activities could fall into more than one category, such as yoga, which is both emotional and physical, or even social if taking a class and interacting with others.

I’ve used these categories as the basis for journaling, to-do lists and organization of files.
